Addison Glass

Tom Nelson, owner of Addison Glass, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas, has not only been cutting, edging and beveling flat glass products for over twenty years, he's also become a machine builder along the way. If Nelson couldn't find or buy what he needed to fabricate the glass, he would build a dedicated piece of equipment to do it.

When it came to building his first CNC machine, the biggest problem, he explained, was coming up with a suitable controller.

"We spent many months asking both hardware and software vendors a lot of questions," he said. "We were looking to reduce hardware dependence and maintenance costs. It became apparent that OpenCNC from MDSI was the only way to go." Find out how OpenCNC enabled Nelson and the Addison Glass team to build the ACE 2000 Automatic Contour Edger, bringing open architecture software CNC and hardware independence to the glass industry.
